Announcements and Opportunities

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) kindly requests your help.

GLAAD is presently in a pro-bono consulting engagement with Bain & Company to determine how GLAAD can serve the LGBT community more effectively.

We would like to find out what the LGBT community thinks about the current state of the LGBT rights movement and the most effective ways to reach equality. We need your help disseminating the survey link below. We ask that you pass this e-mail on to members of LGBT organizations that you are a part of as well as to LGBT friends and colleagues. We also ask that you take the survey yourself;
the survey takes about ten minutes to complete.

All survey responses will go directly to Bain & Company and will be confidential. Please note that thesurvey will close at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, March 17, 2008.

With your help, GLAAD will be able to better serve the needs of the LGBT community. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to e-mail
christopher.lapinig@bridgespan.org. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

LGBT Studies at Yale is pleased to announce new undergraduate summer fellowships in LGBT Studies.

The Yale Research Fellowship in LGBT Studies provides a limited number of fellowships to support original undergraduate research projects in sexuality studies, especially in lesbian, gay, bisexual, and/or transgender studies.  Stipends of $4000 to $5000 will be granted for full-time 8-10 week summer research. Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors are eligible to apply. Preference will be given to those students, especially juniors, whose research will contribute to their senior essays.

For more information, and details on how to apply, see http://www.yale.edu/iefp/fellowships/individual/lgbt.html.

Grants Available for Research in LGBT Studies

Spring FLAGS Grant Applications Due March 28th

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Studies announces its spring semester FLAGS awards (Fund for Lesbian and Gay Studies), available to Yale graduate and professional students and faculty. Deadline is March 28, 2008.

New this semester: We now provide funding for course development in LGBT Studies as well as for research and publication

Grants are made in support of projected research or publication and for new course development.  Purposes for which funding may be sought include (but are not limited to): travel to inspect primary source materials or to conduct interviews; acquisition of inaccessible books, microfilms, or other materials (with the understanding that such materials will ultimately be offered to Sterling or another library within the University); assistance in research and manuscript preparation; publication subvention; and projects in basic sciences, medicine, nursing, and public health.  Funds are not granted to provide reimbursement for expenses already incurred.  Applicants who seek additional funding for a previously supported project are expected to state how the money already received has been used and to justify the continuation of support.  Recipients are responsible for knowing all University policies and procedures related to the conduct of research as they apply to their proposed project (see in particular Chapters 1 and 10 of the Principal Investigator's Handbook at http://www.yale.edu/provost/pih/index.html ).

Individual awards will be available for a minimum of $500 to a maximum of $5,000. Award monies are available for one year after the grant has been awarded. After one year, an extension for the grant must be filed. Sorry, undergraduates are not eligible. Original receipts are necessary for reimbursement; no meals are covered.

To apply, please forward to the Committee, in the care of Rachel Pepper, FLAGS Grants, Yale University, LGBT Studies, 100 Wall Street, WLH 312, P.O. Box 208334, New Haven CT 06520-8334 by March 28:

(2)   a budget and description of your need for support (including the description of any other kinds of financial support you are also soliciting for this project)
(3)   the names of two persons whom you have asked to recommend you; those persons should send directly to the aforementioned address by the deadline a letter supporting your project and your ability to carry it out successfully and in a timely manner.
Please ensure that you include a home address, e-mail, and phone number so that we can contact you regarding your grant application.
Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Email questions to Rachel Pepper at lgs@yale.edu. Awards will be announced by late April.
